Signing up for a debt settlement program is easy. What happens when you have a problem and you need to talk with someone. If you have received a summons to appear in court you will need help fast. If you call the customer service number are you going to get dumped into a voice mail or will someone actually expedite your call or will it get lost for days. If you are not sure about it, call the customer service number and see how they handle the calls. Is there a bozo on the other end of the line or someone that sounds competent.

If you just want to settle your fears there are ways that you can check out a debt settlement company before you sign up with them. You may just want to Google the name of the company to see if there are any complaints that pull up in the search results. Often you will see results show up in the Rip Off Report. You may see a few but if there are pages of complaints you may want to pass. You can also check with the Better Business Bureau. You can even do it online. You may also want to make a phone call to your states attorney general. It may not be a bad idea to call you local consumer protection agency to see if their are any complaints against the company. The last stop may be to scan the FTC website as well.
